Thanks to one and all who attended The Church of the Red Rocks’ Congregational meeting last Sunday. We had an excellent attendance and open conversations about the investment of the proceeds of the sale of the parking lot.
Members shared ideas and preferences for investing the funds with dignity and respect. There were genuine concerns for the economic uncertainty of our times.
Few remember the rationale for the purchase of the parking lot on Hwy 179, except that it was purchased without debt and was overflow parking for large events. No one could have anticipated the impact of COVID on the life of the church or decline in attendance and need for extra parking.
All across the America, as the result of a 25-year decline in church attendance, the decline in numbers of ordained pastors and the loss of financial resources, hundreds of churches are closing ever year. Fortunately, The Church of the Red Rocks is not among them.
The church is blessed by previous generations of members who established the Mission and Legacy Endowments. A roster of those saints is found in Painted Cliffs Hall.
The sale of the parking lot is an act of God’s Grace; we must not let it undermine our fellowship and sense of community or undermine our personal spiritual stewardship! May we bless Sedona and the Verde Valley.
