Transition Team Update – Together for Good
You are invited this Sunday after worship, May 21, to help the Transition Team
refine the Core Values of the Church of the Red Rocks. This is partly a word-
smithing project and partly a chance to engage with each other and the
Transition Team to be sure we are on the right track.
At our last update session, we reported on the input you gave in the small group
“Connecting Conversations.” We ended that session by asking those present to
give beginning input to a list of Core Values. You provided about 30 or so words
that we’ve been sitting with and trying to shape into a shorter list that captures
the essence of our core values – – or the parameters within which the church
functions at our most faithful. You can find the full list from last month, and the
report on the Connecting Conversations, on the website by clicking on the
Transition Team box at the bottom of the opening page.

On Sunday, the Transition Team invites you to engage with us around what we’ve
done so far so we can get your continuing input and guidance. We think that the
following ideas begin to capture what we’ve heard … but there needs to be
further synthesis and we are asking you to help.
Holy Hospitality
Spiritual, Physical, Emotional, Relational Nurture
Impactful, Inspiring, Inspirational Worship
Love One Another -Christlike Love
Embracing Grace
Expression of God’s Love in the World
The story of Jesus doesn’t end with Jesus. It continues in the lives of those who
believe in him. In the Book of the Acts of the Apostles it is very clear that the
presence of Christ among us, as the church is formed and reformed anew for
each day, depends on very specific folk agreeing to work together. One of the
texts for this last Sunday before Pentecost is this:
So they left the mountain called Olives [where Jesus had been mysteriously taken up to
heaven] and returned to Jerusalem. It was a little over half a mile. They went to the
upper room they had been using as a meeting place:
Peter,
John,
James,
Andrew,
Philip,
Thomas,
Bartholomew,
Matthew,
James, son of Alphaeus,
Simon the Zealot,
Judas, son of James.
They agreed they were in this for good, completely together in prayer, the women
included. Also Jesus’ mother, Mary, and his brothers. Acts 1:13-14
The Transition Team —such as we are – Michael, Bob, Sara, Lawrence, Betty,
Margaret, also Interim Pastor Marvin – seek to be “together for good” with you …
all included … as we continue to refine how we define ourselves as the Church of
the Red Rocks in this time and place. Please join us for this conversation.
